Yo,
What can i say about the weekend, well sunday really as that was the only day i was there.

It was a great day for me to actually put faces to people that i've been linking with on the forum for some time.
I felt honoured to be amongst some of the 'big players' on the forum and who are well revered on the circuit.
In no particular order i was meet by Steve Rice, Sir Marcus and Big Phil and the POJ posse.We all enjoyed the odd cuppa and of course the odd pint (remember i don't drink before 6pm ).........well that went out the window didn't it ? hahahahahahaha

No, seriously it was a great day and i can honestly say that as the 1st event (that i'm aware of) down Folkestone then they should be very proud of what was achieved. I'm certainly looking forward to being invited to next years event.
Mind you i do agree with Marcus about how many times differant bands can cover the same tune and they should get together before the event and discuss there playlist.
Having said that the same could be said for the Dj's.

BIG RESPECT to Phil E for holding it down and making sure everything went well and the promoters would do well to let him organise the vinyl side of the show next year, a true brick and did endless work behind the scenes that i fear went by and large unnoticed by the vast majority.......Bless Up Phil.

BIG RESPECT to Steve Rice who welcomed me like a brother (as did all the others btw) and after a walk about and a little reasoning we took to the stage as though we had played together for years. It was a complete pleasure to go one for one after our warm up sets and after i 'ribbed' Steve with a little dubious 'free style toasting' he punished me severley with a wicked Dennis Alcapone dub plate.......nice one Steve but i hoped i leveled the terms with my 'Coronation St' hahahahaha pmsl at that.(Watch this space as i feel another one for one is on it's way)

BIG RESPECT to Sir Marcus who in my humble opinion can Mc any of my sets forever!!
He was a true proffesional......which in my book .... he knows when to chat and when not to. He certainly put the icing on the cake for our set as far as i'm concerned and as a tribute, or as Steve said 'brown noser' hahahahah I kicked off my 1st set with Bush War!!

BIG RESPECT to the POJ crew who i enjoyed a nice cuppa ( sounds like an old boys re-union) and of course the odd pint hahahahahaha. Big up to Paul and the 'lads' who amongst all the others made my friends very welcome.
I did have to laugh at one point when the POJ crew and Ricey and me were listening to Big Phils set over a cuppa and we were trying to 'spot the tune' hahahaha.

BIG RESPECT to another 'key spar' Bob Brooks and his lady Jen. We were supposed to be playing together but as the the days running order was being changed quicker than an 'old brasses condoms' he gave up his slot so that me and Ricey could do our thing.
They took me back to Jen's to stay and i was treated like royalty and then Bob brought me home and we enjoyed a nice 'Ruby Murray' before he headed of back.
I shouldn't really mention that before i left the house that Bob filled my arms with about 30+ tunes ..........pure niceness and a box set of rare groove soul and funk as well as a the box set of Top Deck!!!

ALBUM FOR PETER BROGGS

More Univershall is exactly what it says, a Univershall collective of artists from far and wide including, America, Jamaica, France, and of course the UK, to name but a few, gathering together to pay their respects, and dues to Peter Broggs. There are names you might be familiar with such as Peter Broggs himself, Telford Nelson and Pama International along with many of today’s up and coming reggae stars, like Hassle, Steve Steppa, Yabass, The Manor and Lyrikill all joining together to deliver what I think is a very fine collection of songs. The LP is predominantly a ‘roots’ flavoured affair, but there are also some top dubs, scorching ska and touches of dub step, with the whole album sounding very fresh and up to date, despite a few of the tracks having been previously released elsewhere. A large chunk of the tracks have also been re-mastered by Ras Bruno, so the sound quality is excellent. It would be unfair of me to pick favourite tracks as all the songs have been donated for this album, and all the profits are going to Peter who has, as is yet another familiar and unfortunate story that is common among a lot of Jamaican artists, sadly fallen on hard times and been suffering with the effects of a serious stroke as well.
So dig deep my friends and get yourselves a top compilation, with a selection of tunes that should manage to keep everybody happy, and also help a reggae star of the past in these difficult times.

I was born in Wales on the 3rd of February 1952 and lived there until I was 4 when my father moved the family to Edmonton in North London.

From a very early age I was influenced by music and I was brought up on a good diet of jazz. Dad had a drum kit in the “front room” and he and some of his pals would jam along to records.
Whilst growing up during the early 60’s, although not totally aware, the street and local area was slowly giving rise to a certain change. More and more West Indians (mainly Jamaicans) where coming here to live and bringing with them their rich and vibrant culture.

Houses were being painted in a way that the traditionally “stuffy” English where totally unaware of to aromas and fragrances that were equally baffling, filtering through the scent of good old fish and chips!It was during this period that I became aware of a different style of music that I was not very familiar with although I had heard stuff that I thought might have resembled it. From hearing tunes like Al Capone, Madness and Bonanza Ska from early visits to a local “dance hall” in Bush Hill Park.. Dressed as a “rocker” (you know, fake leather jacket and studs ha ha ha) I would dance along to these as well as the latest pop hits. I was really unaware that I had been listening to early ska.

It was not unusual for me to be found “loitering” up and down our street and hanging about outside the houses of our overseas friends just listening to what I could. The sound always sounded more powerful than our record player and it was not long after that I saw and heard my first “BlueSpot Stereogram”
The “Spot” was the ultimate home accessory for any Jamaican household and would take pride of place in the front room normally adorned with lace and pictures.

It’s now early 1968 and my 16th birthday is looming so I persuaded my Mum to let me have a party for a few friends. So I got a couple of crates of brown ale (for the men haha) and some port and lemonade (for the girls). Oh we knew how to enjoy ourselves in the “old days”!
While I am waiting for people to arrive my brother Eric turns up with a pile of tunes that Carlton Small had given him saying “let Brian use these for his party tonight”.

So there I am going through these tunes thinking “bloomin’ ‘eck” these are brilliant!All rocksteady stuff like “Run boy run” and a whole pile more of Studio 1 stuff.

Everybody has now turned up and the party is in full swing and were all bopping to pop music but as we start t o run out of selections I draw out “the pile” from Carlton. Well in seconds everyone is jumping and after a few more we spend the whole night just playing them over and over……….! I am now hooked on this music and 40 years later I am still addicted to it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

10" VINYL MONSTER TUNE!

We are proud to present the release of this 10" vinyl KILLER ROOTS TUNE!

The "A" Side by White Bird called "Sho Be Do Be Do" is a previously unreleased STEPPERS MONSTER recorded in Jamaica in the 90's but never released.....and comes complete with the EARTH SHATTERING DUB...!!!

The "B" side has two contrasting vocals. The first track entitled "Visions" by Lymie Murray was released in Jamaica on just a handful of 7" pressings and has since become very sought after amongst the "Sound Men" across the Globe. The second track is another previously unreleased vocal from White Bird called "Feed The Nation".
